Central European Conference
Project Scope
Visual Identity, Logo Design, Print Design, Motion Graphics
Central European Conference is organised by the Czech & Slovak student societies along with Hungarian and Polish student societies. The conference aims to bring together Czech, Slovak, Polish, and Hungarian students and professionals in London, as well as any students interested in the region, and provide a platform for discussion about key topics, challenges, and opportunities that will transform Central Europe in the near future.
I worked closely with London School of Economics Students’ Union representatives to design a new logo, visual identity, and other media for their annual Central European conference.
Concept
Spiral: ○ Evolution ○ Connectivity & Union ○ Progress ○ Centering ○ Connection.
Perhaps its most prolific appearance is in Celtic symbology, where we see the spirals decorating a myriad of their ancient artifacts. From around 750 BC to 12 BC, the Celts were the most influential people in Central and Northern Europe. The combination of the letters ‘c’, ‘e’, and spiral shape conveys an idea of connection and center, where negative space creates an attractive logo for the eye.
Colours
The identity is also visually represented by the two primary standard colours of the Czech & Slovak flags and one even of the European flag (Navy Blue and Red).
Navy blue is considered the safest global colour to avoid cultural misunderstandings. It also represents attributes of the conference like trustworthiness, wisdom, seriousness, and growth (future). Red represents enthusiasm, energy, passion, and importance, which, perhaps, could be conveyed as the importance of discussing problems of current events & issues in Central Europe. Secondary colour: light yellow: positive thinking & vision of a better future.
Typography
Averta is a high-quality sans-serif typeface with a trendy look, a sense of trust, and professionality. Simplistic yet appealing personality to express an unmoderated, straightforward tone resulting in a modernist, neutral and friendly typeface. This typeface has a wide range of uses, and it includes Latin Extended letters (for Slovak & Czech language).
